Prayer

Changes Things...

What is prayer?

Great Question! Prayer is a direct link to you and God. It’s a communication process that allows you to talk to God. Think of it like a phone call to your best friend, God wants us to communicate with Him. While it may seem complicated, it’s not, its simply talking to God. Its a way to become aware of and experience God’s presence…it’s one of the reasons we pray.

Why pray?

As complicated as it might sound, it’s like breathing, as easy to do than to not do. There are a variety of reasons but for one thing, God wants us to pray and communicate with Him. It’s a form of serving and obeying God (Luke 2:36-38). Prayer is intended to obtain God’s solutions in a number of situations. We pray to gain strength to overcome temptation (I Corinthians 10:13) , in preparation for major events or decisions in life (Luke 6:12-13) , to overcome barriers (Matthew 17:14-21) and to obtain means of strengthening others spiritually (Ephesians 6:18-19).

What do I say?

1. Ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and make you new in Him! “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9).
2. Tell Him your needs! “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank him for his answers.” ( Philippians 4:6-9).
3. Thank Him, for He died on the cross at Calvary for us! “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” ( John 3:16).

How do I say it?

1. Have the belief and confidence that He will deliver. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” (1 John 5:14). 2. With joy that He can deliver. “In every prayer for all of you, I always pray with joy,” ( Philippians 1:4). 3. With expectation that He is going to deliver. “We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.” ( Daniel 9:18).

And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, "Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, so that it might not cause me pain." And God granted him that which he requested.

1 Chronicles 4:10

"Our prayers may be awkward. Our attempts may be feeble. But since the power of prayer is in the one who hears it and not in the one who says it, our prayers do make a difference." - Max Lucado
